Doug served for more than 20 years as a Special Agent with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and had a full career conducting domestic and international investigations on major violators of the Controlled Substances Act. Nearly all the cases involved a high degree of complexity and use of sophisticated investigative techniques, such as undercover operations, wiretap intercepts and tracking of financial assets. During his tenure with the DEA, Doug also served as an acting supervisor with the Charleston Resident Office and is well versed in drug enforcement policy and procedure.
Doug is a licensed attorney and member of both the South Carolina and District of Columbia bar associations. He has a keen understanding of 4th Amendment search and seizure law and its application to complex criminal investigations. Doug also has extensive experience in preparing intricate affidavits, giving sworn testimony in various judicial proceedings and participating in criminal trials.
Representing the DEA, Doug also worked long term assignments on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Violent Crimes Task Force and Joint Terrorism Task Force. Early in his career, he also gained experience in conducting background investigations on prospective DEA employees needing security clearances.
While assigned to the Charleston Resident Office, Doug also served as the training coordinator and security officer. As the training coordinator, Doug created and implemented various training classes, which included presentations to outside entities such as schools and healthcare facilities. As the security officer, Doug was in charge of managing the physical security and workplace safety of the office.
Doug has been the recipient of numerous DEA performance awards and formal accolades from other agencies, most notably including the Bermuda Police Commendation Award, the International Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association Award and the United States Attorney’s Award for the District of South Carolina.
